Friday, February 20 7:00 pm "Come
Out to the Cabaret"
The Quire: Eastern Iowa's GLBTG Chorus
announces Come Out to the Cabaret on February 20, 2004 at 7:00pm at
Old Brick 26 East Market. Come Out to the Cabaret is a fundraising
event presented by the Quire to raise money to attend GALA Festival
VII in Montreal Canada this coming July. Festival VII is an
international choral festival sponsored by GALA (the association of
gay and lesbian choruses) attracting over 165 choruses from all over
the world. In addition to the many concerts given by the various
choruses, the Festival VII features workshops, lectures, special
events and guest artists. The Quire will be representing Iowa City as
well as all of Eastern Iowa.
Come Out to the Cabaret will be an evening of songs, a silent auction,
food and fun. You will have a chance to see and hear The Quire as
never before. In addition to wide array of sumptuous and hearty
appetizers, desserts and beverages, a fun and fascinating range of
items will be available for bidding in the silent auction.
Of course, you won't be disappointed by the musical offering The Quire
has planned. A musical review of popular and Broadway tunes will be
featured in Love in Here to Stay. Ever striving for growth and
diversity in their repertoire, you will have the opportunity to hear
the and see The Quire like you've never seen or heard them before.
Love is Here to Stay features a variety of songs about the emotion of
love in its many forms. From the poignant and passionate, to the
sweet and simple, to the daring and dramatic, to silly and
side-splitting hilarious, The Quire will sing and dance their way into
your hearts once again.
Not only will The Quire perform as a group, several members will step
forward in solos, duets and other small group songs dazzling the
audience with their unique talents. The music of Cole Porter, George
and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Alan Menken and Howard
Ashman, Jerry Herman and many others will be featured throughout the
evening.
Please join The Quire in this fun and food-filled evening while
helping them reach their goal in sending their members to Montreal for
Festival VII.
Come Out to the Cabaret, Friday February 20, 2004 at 7:00pm in Old
Brick, 26 E Market, Iowa City, Ia. Admission is a donation from
$10.00 to $25.00 at the door or from any Quire member

July 9, 2004
Join in the fun as we present a variety of tunes that emphasize
the bonds we share with those around us and why each person we are
connected to is in some way “family.” As Quire audiences have come
to expect, the program will include a wide variety of musical styles,
from works by American composer Aaron Copland, to two lush movements
from Morten Lauridsen’s “Les Chansons Des Roses” (Songs of Roses), to
an original piece by Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock, to
selections from Broadway musicals including “Oliver” and “Into the
Woods,” to a rollicking setting of the disco-hit “We Are Family” made
famous by Sister Sledge – and much more!
The first concert will be presented in conjunction with
Pride Month on Saturday, June 26, at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 N.
Johnson, Iowa City, at 8:00 pm. The second concert will take place on
Friday, July 9, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1000 30th
Street NE, Cedar Rapids, at 7:30 pm, and will also be a “send off” to
our performance at the GALA Festival VII in Montreal. No admission
will be charged for either concert; freewill donations will be
accepted.

July 17-24, 2004 GALA Festival
VII in Montreal, Canada
The Quire will be preparing for our participation in GALA Festival VII
in Montreal, Canada in July. GALA is the International Association of
Gay and Lesbian Choruses. Every four years, GALA holds an
international festival of choruses.. From July 17-24, 2004 over 165
GLBT Choruses from around the world will be in Montreal for Festival
VII.

The concert will feature Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols with
harp accompaniment. Other pieces include Samuel Barber's "Sure
on this Shining Night", three holiday songs by PDQ Bach, some
Chanukah songs, a King Singers version of Jingle Bells which is sure
to please and many other favorites.
